Im Sinne einer Modellreaktion für den Mechanismus der biologischen Isomerisierung von Isopentenylpyrophosphat zu Dimethylallylpyrophosphat wird Felininphosphat (VII) durch Addition von Cystein an Isopentenylphosphat (VI) dargestellt und seine Isomerisierung zu Dimethylallylphosphat (XI) wahrscheinlich gemacht. Felinin (I) wird durch enzymatische Hydrolyse von VII erhalten, seine absolute Konfiguration als s‐Felinin erkannt.
