Synthesis of 6‐Methoxy‐2,5‐dimethyl‐2__H__‐isoindole‐4,7‐dione, an Alkaloid from Reniera Species

6‐Methoxy‐2,5‐dimethyl‐2__H__‐isoindole‐4,7‐dione (4) can easily be obtained in high yields in a one‐pot synthesis by heating sarcosine (2) and paraformaldehyde in the presence of 3‐methoxy‐2‐methyl‐1,4‐benzoquinone (1).
