Reactions of the 1,4-Diboranaphthalene derivative l a with 5 a reveals an Fe-Fe interaction (2.98 A). l a reacts with (C0)3Fe(C8H14)2 lead to the orange anti dinuclear complex [(C5H5)Fe(C8HIz)],Zn to give the 30-VE triple-decker ?a, in [(C0)3Fe(q6,q4-la)Fe(CO)3] (4a) and to the cherry-red syn com-which the diene of the benzo ring can be complexed with a plex [(C0)3Fe(q4,q6-1 a)Fe(CO)*] @a). The X-ray structure of Fe(CO), moiety to yield the trinuclear complex 9a.
