In order to interpret the Cotton effect in circular dichroism of various derivatives of methyl 3-ketocholanate, in the 5a and 5B series, a conformational study of 10 such compounds has been carried out by Allinger force-field method . The results of this theoretical analysis give a sound basis to the interpretation of the circular dichroism data, and show the limitation of this technique in structural investigation .
