The purpose of the symposium is to provide multidisciplinary medium for communicating recent and projected advances in applied mechanics, applied mathematics, numerical analysis, computer hardware, computer software and their impact on &~~uotur,~ nrzd ha4id nwchuniti. Papers are invited an the following topics: new structural theories and their formulation, material characterization and strength theories, analytical solution techniques and their adaptation to computerized solution of structural problems, advances in finite element technology and other numerical discretization techniques, adaptive methods and mathematical modeling techniques, potential of minicomputers, supercomputers, distributed processors, microprocessors and systolic arrays for solution of structural problems. Among the application areas considered are: inelastic behavior and failure mechanisms of fibrous composite structures, vehicle crashworthiness, earthquake resistant structures, and large-area space structures.
