✦ Synopsis
AImtraet--Nonlinear current transport behavior during low-temperature avalanche breakdown in extrinsic germanium comprises the spontaneous symmetry-breaking evocation of spatial and temporal dissipative structures in the formerly homogeneous semiconductor. Representing a general feature of spatially distributed and compartmentalized reaction-diffusion systems, such kind of order-disorder transitions are discussed in terms of the interdisciplinary synergetics concept that embraces wide ranges of human activities both in the arts and in the sciences.
