✦ Synopsis

Symmetrical wax esters are prepared from fatty alcohols by a novel, catalytic one-step synthesis. Homogeneous catalysts for the oxidation of the alcohols to carboxylic acids as well as for the esterification are Re207 or other rhenium compounds; additionally the reaction is supported by azeotropic water removal. The C14-C32 esters obtained can be used as lubricants or in cosmetics.
