✦ Synopsis

Reversible and irreversible

charge-transfer models are applied to the switching reaction of polypyrrole films containing perchlorate.

The films were prepared by applying an anodic potential of either 0.75 or l.OV (vs. see). The peak currents and peak positions in cyclic voltammograms are used to calculate the transfer coeficient (a or /I) and the kinetic constants (k, and k,) using one point or multiple point fits. Using a scaling factor, the peak currents predicted by multiple point regression fall within loo/ of the measurements.

We are exploring the electronic properties of novel materials such as conducting polymer-coated polyester fibres and charge transfer complexes configured in resistive, gated (FET) and diode configurations. In this paper we will consider several areas where we are attempting to make sensors and/ or p
