Also in PC Week are the results of a survey based on 1567 UK professionals responsible for networks. This survey reveals that the number of organizations suffering Internet-borne viruses and security breaches is still increasing. Carried out by IFF for Black Box Catalogue, the survey reveals that the percentage of organizatibns seriously affected by downloaded viruses has more than doubled over a nine month period from 6% in January to 14% in September of this year. However, only 3% of the IT directors admitted breaches in their company's networks, compared with 12% of network engineers. The number of companies affected by security breaches from the Internet also rose over the same period from 5 to 9%. More positively, 78% if those with Internet access said that they have "obtained significant benefits" from the Internet. Fifty-five percent have set up a Web site and 70% of those believe the site has been beneficial to the company.
