โœฆ Synopsis


Seventy-six species belonging to 29 genera were collected from 320 samples of cloven-hooves and horns of goats and sheep. C/rrysosporium was the most common genus on the various substrates and comprehended the following species: C. asperatum, Chrysusporiunr anamorph of .4rtltroderma cuniculi, Chrysosporirim anainorph of ,4rt~roderma rurreyi, C . georgii, C . iiidicum, C. keratinophilum, C. lobatrrm, C. lurknowetisc~, C. punnicolu, C . pseudomerdariunr. C. queenslundicum, Clrrysosporium state of Thielavia sepedonium and C . tropicum. Some interesting fungi were isolated: Myceliopfrrhoru anamorph of Arthrocfernra tuberculatunr. Myrefiopiithora anamorph of Corynoascus novoguineensis, Myceliophrhora anamorph of Crenomyces serratus, Trichosporon cufaneum, Trichophyton terrestre and T. verrucosum. Also, several saprobic filamentous fungi tolerating high levels of cycloheximide were islolated of which numerous members of Acremonium, Aspergillus, CIIuetomium, Fusarium. Penicillium, Scopulariopsis and serveral others.

The keratinophilic fungi are a well-defined group of fungi specialized to degrade keratinized substrata. It includes the dermatophytes causing diseases of animals, such as ringworm. They occur widely on the fur of small animals, hedgehogs spines, feathers of birds and hairs of human and animal, as well as in debris and soils.
