Opinion on the surgical management of parathyroid disease in multiple endocrine neoplasia ( M E N ) type I is divided between total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation and subtotal resection. The rarity of MEN 11-related primary hyperparathyroidism has not allowed for a well defined policy for this condition. This study compares subtotal (three or more glands) with more conservative resections for primary hyperparathyroidism in MEN I and IIA.
