Twenty-two patients with malignant pericardial effusions were treated with subxiphoid partial pericardiectomy between 1984 and 1989. Thirteen patients also had a sclerosing agent instilled intrapericardially. Tamponade was relieved by pericardiocentesis before administration of general anesthesia. I
