✦ Synopsis

O F BOOKS 349 the radiographic demonstration of abnormalities of the kidneys. The pictures substantiate the claims to some extent, but the technique is attended by dangers which, though the author says they are not those of the method but of failure t o observe the necessary precautions, will give pause t o those considering its adoption. The gas, which should be oxygen (lest i t get into the veins), travels along the course of the vessels, and if it be allowed to enter under too great pressure or in too great quantity may be found in the neck or in the popliteal space : i t is evidently by no means impossible, even with care, t o introduce the gas in quantity into the venous system with dangerous if not fatal results. A bibliography is given, as are some case records and some fairly good illustrative plates.
