## We have investigated the surface structure of stage-l CuCI,-and FeCI,-graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) by atomic force microscopy. For both GICs, the atomically flat terrace-step structures have been easily obtained by cleaving and, on the terraces, interesting incommensurate superlatti
