✦ Synopsis
Potential step techniques and repetitive square wave potential sweeps are applied to Pt electrodes immersed in aqueous acetic-acetate and tritIuoroac&ic-trifluoroacetate solutions to study the initial stages of the Kolbe electrosynthesis reaction and their relation to surface oxides of F't and possible carbon-containing surface intermediates. These results are interpreted through a reaction model in which the Kolbe reaction takes place on a modified R surface involving F't-bonded carbon species.
