Raman spectra of ethene adsorbed on "smooth" silver films and Ag( 111) surfaces are mode-selectively enhanced by postdeposition of silver at 40 K. Comparison with thermodesorption spectroscopy demonstrates that only the signal of C2H4 adsorbed at "defect sites" prepared by silver post-deposition is
