✦ Synopsis
Abstract
This paper presents a review on magneto‐optical investigations of the glass‐coated amorphous microwires including magneto‐optical magnetometry and microscopy. We also discuss a Kerr‐effect method of domain‐wall‐motion detection in glass‐coated wires within a classical Sixtus–Tonks experimental scheme. The developed techniques make it possible to observe the surface magnetization reversal and to establish the main mechanisms of domain‐structure formation and transformation.

## Abstract We report investigations on surface magnetic‐domain structure in amorphous glass‐covered microwires using polar and longitudinal Kerr microscopy. For the first time the main stages of the surface magnetization reversal has been discovered: domain‐wall motion related to the formation of
The temperature dependence of the magnetic behaviour of Fe-based glass-coated amorphous microwires with positive and large magnetostriction constant (around 30 ppm at room temperature) has been studied in the temperature range from 2 to 390 K. For long enough microwires (about 10 mm), hysteresis loo
Surface magnetization reversal has been investigated in Co-rich glass-covered microwires. Difference in mechanism of the surface magnetization reversal has been observed in the microwires with different thicknesses of glass covering. Correlation of the surface magnetic properties and the surface hel
