✦ Synopsis
Surface ionization of the bis-cyclopentadienyl compounds of Fe, Ni, Co and the bis-cyclopentadienyl dichloride compounds of Ti, Zr from a Re emitter exposed to oxygen was studied by mass spectrometry. The variation of the SI ion currents (i) with emitter temperature (T), which is a crucial factor in this study, was investigated and discussed. The i versus T curves show interesting and complex behavior. The mass spectral results were compared with those under electron ionization conditions. Surface ionization mass spectra of metallocenes were found to be ( 1) simple (consisting of only a few metal-containing ions), (2) informative for structural elucidation and molecular weight determination and (3) efficient for analytical purposes.
