โœฆ Synopsis

The electromagctic model of surface-enhanced Raman scattering is used to show that in colloidal sols the fa%re to observe enhanced Raman signals from adsorbed water or even from a macroscopic layer of water near the surface is due not only to the small Raman cross section of water and the fact that any such enhanced sipal is overwhelmed by that from the bulk water, but also because of the high wave number of the vibrational mode of water.
