Abstract

SERS and SERRS spectra in aqueous silver sol for Ru(II) polypyridine complexes with 2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy) and 1,1′‐biisoquinoline (Q) [Ru(bpy), RuQ, Ru(bpy)~2~Q^2+^ and Ru(bpy)Q] were observed with 457.9, 488.0, 514.5 and 632.8 nm excitation. The vibrational modes of the conjugated ring system in the 1600–1400 cm^−1^ region are enhanced by the resonance effect. Some bands in the SERS spectra of the four complexes show remarkably high intensities with longer wavelength excitation. This may be explained by surface selection rules.
