β¦ Synopsis
Quantum-yield measurements are reported on several anthracene derivatives in a molecular beam by the combined techniques of laser-induced fluorescence and surface ejection electrons by laser-excited metastables. The results from this novel experimental method compare well with existing quantum-yield measurements.

The laser excited so-called "fluorescence" background from MgO and q-Al203 surfaces was studied. Surface hydroxide ions are found to be responsible for this phenomenon, since a clear correlation between background intensity and hydrosyl group density of the surface is observed. The so-called "fluor
