This brief paper on the erythrocyte of the catfish is prompted by the rather categorical pronouncement of Nittis ('30) that the stigma as described by him is a specific structure of the erythrocyte not to be confused with other granules, globules, and vacuoles which react with vital dyes, and is apparently common to all circulating, mature, nucleated red blood cells. This generalization is apparently based on a study of the blood of four different animals, frog, pigeon, horned toad, and snake ; with the exception of the horned toad, the exact species utilized are not definitely indicated.
