✦ Synopsis
SUPPURATIVE parenchymatous glossitis resulting in abscess formation has been reported in the literature, and i n two instances we have treated small pyaemic abscesses of the tongue. We have been unable to find any report of the type of case presented here. CASE REPORTS case I . -~ 5-year-old Hindu male child was admitted to King George's Medical Hospital, Lucknow, with a history of progressive enlargement of tongue, difficulty with speech, excessive salivation, and mild dyspnoea for 1%. 24 hours. The father reported that the child had had a small swelling at the tip of the tongue since the age of 6 months. This had been about I cm. in diameter and had not varied in size, nor had it been painful. Twenty-four hours before admission the patient started having pain and swelling in his tongue, which had increased in size until it protruded outside the mouth.
