Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) hyperplasia plays a central role in chronic and acute vascular pathology including arteriosclerosis and restenosis following vascular surgery. The glycosaminoglycans of the heparan sulfate class, including heparin, inhibit VSMC proliferation in animals and in cultu
