✦ Synopsis
A procedure which is employed to determine the optimum parameters of two dynamic vibration absorbers tuned to the first two resonances of a beam is given, The steady-state vibration amplitudes of the beam with vibration absorbers are determined by the assumedmodes method. Viscously damped vibration absorbers are considered While the beam is assumed to be structurally damped. In the analysis, two types of amplitudes are considered for the harmonic force: constant and frequency-squared. As a specific case a cantilever beam is studied, and the optimum tuning and damping ratios of the absorbers tuned to the first and second resonances of a cantilever beam are determined numerically by solving a min-max problem. It is shown that the optimum parameters of the absorber tuned to the second resonance are not affected significantly from the presence of the absorber tuned to the first resonance, whereas the opposite is not true. The results obtained are presented in graphical form.
