โœฆ Synopsis

Several physico-chemical parameters of l,lO-didecyl-l,lO-diaza-l&crown-6 (22DD Kryptofix) such as aqueous solubility, protonation and metal binding constants with Cu(II), important for the choice of this ligand as a carrier in a liquid membrane, were studied. The solubility of 22DD Kryptofix in water at 25 'C was found to be (2.7 f 0.1) x lo-' M at 25 o C. Aqueous 22DD solution has a UV absorbance band in the region of 198 nm. The effect of pH and alkali metal ions on the UV spectra is discussed. Protonation constants and the stability constant with C&I) were determined at 25 o C and at 0.1 M ionic strength by potentiometric titration using a glass electrode and a Cu(II) ion-selective electrode, respectively.

The use of lipophilic l, lO-didecyl-l,lO-diaza-18-crown-6 in a supported liquid membrane for the separation of transition metal ions, particularly copper ions under natural aquatic conditions, was evaluated. The effect of parameters such as carrier concentration, source phase pH and the nature of th
