Der wissenschaftliche Schwerpunkt des Buches zu diesem recht neuen betriebswirtschaftlichen Erkenntnisbereich liegt in der Modellierung sowie Lösung eines unternehmensübergreifendens Ablaufplanungsproblems. Diese Modellierung und Lösung erlauben es, das Kostensenkungspotenzial der Kooperation in einer Supply Chain auf der operativen Ebene der gemeinsamen Maschinenbelegungs- und Transportplanung zu quantifizieren.
