✦ Synopsis
A new technique for generating extremely small time-delay steps as a function of wa¨elength is presented. The fiber unit comprises o¨erwritten gratings at different Bragg wa¨elengths with ¨arying coupling coefficients, and hence ¨arying effecti¨e reflection points. The shortest delay step demonstrated was 2 ps, which can generate the small timedelay increments required in high-resolution beamformers for microwa¨e phased arrays.
