✦ Synopsis
The free fatty acids and fatty acid ethyl esters present in ethanolic extracts of Sabal serrulata were analysed by supercritical fluid chromatography. Two alternatives for capillary supercritical fluid chromatography of free fatty acids and fatty acid ethyl esters are proposed, namely derivatization of the carboxyl group or use of carbon dioxide saturated with water. Both methods produced a drastic improvement of the resolution. The methods were validated and used to determine the amount of lauric acid and ethyl laurate in extracts of the title plant.
