✦ Synopsis

The behavior of the superconducting transition temperature Tc of singlecrystal and polycrystalline V3Si was investigated as a function of low-fluence neutron irradiation. It is found that the initial degradation of Tc is sampledependent, some specimens showing no degradation in Te up to a fluence of 2 x 1018 n/cm 2. This and many other earlier observations on low-fluence behavior are explained in terms of a recently proposed model of radiation damage in A-15 compounds.

The Tc behavior of vapor-deposited Nb3Ge and Nb3Sn is examined as a function of low-fluence alpha-particle irradiation. It is found that for Nb3Sn with po-15 tz~-cm the Tc is insensitive to low doses of radiation, whereas Nb3Ge with po ~ 50 tzf~-cm has its Tc depressed immediately with irradiation.
