โฆ Synopsis
The increasing use of superconducting devices in the laboratorx such as the Squid and the small scale superconducting magnet together with the expanding use of large superconducting magnets in high energy physics and power generation research make an understanding of the basic phenomena very desirable to a wide variety of disciplines. This book covers the subject in sufficient depth for this purpose.
No previous knowlcdge ofsuperconductivit} is assumed and any degree of understanding in the field of magnetism will allow thc reader to follow the majority of the explanations. Some experience of Quantum Mechanics is required to follow the arguments of chapters 9, 1 (l and 11 although the material is presented in such a way that the general concepts can still be understood without such experiencc.
The book is divided into two parts: part I deals with type 1 superconductors and part II with type 2 superconductors.
