✦ Synopsis

The trigeminal artery is the most common of the primitive carotid-basilar anastarnoses to persist into adulthood. The diagnosis of persistent trigeminal artery (PTA) could only be made a t cerebral angiography until the development of MR imaging. This poster compares angiography and MR imaging in nine cases of PTA. Seven of the nine PTAs were identified at MR examination. In two of the cases the PTAs were small and were not identified at MR examination. Sagittal short TR/TE images were the most sensitive for detection of the PTA. Sagittal and axial MR images with angiographic correlation demonstrating the appearance of the PTA are presented.
