I. INTRODUCTION

The organization of the rest of this paper sponds to the major topics covered at the work The Fifth International Workshop on Slow Positron Section II summarizes depth profiling includir Beam Techniques for Solids and Surfaces velopments in Monte Carlo simulations and sen (SLOPOS5) took place on 5-10 August 1992 in ductor studies. Section III pertains to surface si Jackson Hole, Wyoming. One hundred and thirty including the techniques of Low Energy Pn scientists, including 24 students, from 16 countries Diffraction, Re-emitted Positron Spectroscopy attended. We attempt here to briefly summarize the Positron-annihilation-induced Auger Electron contributions to the workshop. The selection of troscopy. Section IV analyzes progress in p0: topics and research inevitably reflect the interests and beam techniques including the development expertise of the authors. Much important research, tense positron beams, positron microscopes. presented at the workshop, has not been included in pulsed beam techniques. Section V covers this short review for which we apologize to the iments aimed at fundamental measurement of reader.

quantities as scattering and ionization cross sec As evidenced by the contributions to the work-Section VI contains concluding comments. shop, the application of positron beams to studies of solids and surfaces has reached a certain level of maturity. For example we are now able to achieve not
