The oligosaccharide products resulting from treatment of mucin-type glycoproteins with alkali in the presence of the sulfite anion have been investigated. Treatment of fetuin and of tryptic glycopeptides from the human erythrocyte with this reagent resulted in the release of sulfited oligosaccharide
