In a letter t o Nature1), Mr. R. S. W i m p e n n y and the writer gave a brief notice of the Breeding of Mugi2 capito Cuv. in Lake Qaroun, It is intended to give here a more detailed account of the stocking operations of this lake. It should be borne in mind that this stocking with mullets arose as a necessity. Lake Qaroun, lying in the lowest part of the Fayoum depression in the Lybian desert, represents the remains of lake Moeris which is supposed to have been, under the Amenophis, a big reservoir for flood water.
