The future of subnitride chemistry appears promising: M~6~ octahedra with a central N atom have been detected in the new compound Na~16~Ba~6~N and in the compound hitherto described as βAg~8~Ca~3~β; the latter is actually the isotypic Ag~16~Ca~6~N (with 0.7% N)! In these compounds the M~6~N octahedr
