✦ Synopsis
This volume contgtins papers discussing various aspects of the subglacial environment, most of which were presented at the Vth International Drumlin Symposium at the XIVth INQUA Congress in Berlin, Germany, 1995. The common goal of the research presented is to shed more light on the dynamics of the interface between glacier ice and its substratum. This is approached by studying the relationships between subglacial sediments, landforms and their formation processes. Special attention is devoted to drumlins, spectacular and intriguing glacial bedforms, whose origin must be comprehended if mechanisms governing ice motion over soft sediments and, ultimately, processes controlling the course of glaciation are to be better understood.
