✦ Synopsis

The equation for free vibration of a tube-in-tube tall building which is obtained by considering an influence coefficient due to the shear lag effect and using the equivalent closed tube method is proved strictly to be the fourth-order Sturm-Liouville differential equation, and a formulation for calculating natural frequencies of the structure is obtained directly. In comparison with other numerical and experimental results, the frequencies found from the proposed method are quite satisfactory for practical use and are simple to calculate.
