✦ Synopsis
A series of novel azomethinediols, benzene 1,4-di(4-iminohydroxyphenoxy-n-alkanol)s was prepared from 4-[4-(4-hydroxybenzylideneamino)phenyliminomethyl] phenol with 2-chloroethanol, 3bromopropanol, 6-bromohexanol, respectively. A series of poly(azomethine-urethane)s was prepared by condensation of benzene 1,4-di(4-iminohydroxyphenoxy-n-alkanol) with hexamethylene-diisocyanate (HMDI), isophorone-diisocyanate (IPDI), 4,4'-methylene-di(phenyl-diisocyanate) (MDI) and 2,4toluylene-diisocyanate (2,4 TDI), respectively. Thermotropic liquid crystalline properties of these synthesized poly(azomethine-urethane)s were examined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), optical photomicroscopic observation, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). All of the polymers, except polymers P2, P3 and P7, exhibit thermotropic liquid crystalline properties.

Seven new mesogenic diol monomers CmCn, consisting of two bis(p-oxybenzoyl) units interconnected by a polymethylene segment containing n methylene groups and flanked by two linear w-hydroxyalkyl segments containing m methylene groups were reacted with l$-hexamethylenediisocyanate (HIN) to give a new
Two series of poly(ether amide)s, ! and II, were prepared by direct polycondensation from 4,4'-diacrylic acid<t, to-diphenoxyalkanes and 4,4'-dicarboxyl-~, to-diphenoxyalkanes with diamines. The phase behaviour of these polymers was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and optical polarizing
Three series of the thermotropic liquid crystalline copoly(imide-ester)s were prepared by direct polycondensation. The first two series of the copoly(imide-ester)s were synthesized from N-(4-carboxyphenyl) trimellitimide with N,N-di( hydroxypropyl) pyromellitic diimide and various aromatic diols. Th
