The interactions between polybenzimmidazole (PBIL) membrane and organic solutes have been studied by quantum chemistry calculations, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The PBIL membrane performance is discussed based on the interactions between the membrane and organic solutes.
