✦ Synopsis
2-Phenyl-2-oxazoline was polymerized using dimethyl, diethyl and di-set-butyl sulphates as initiators with the aim to study the influence of the alkyl group size in the initiation and propagation processes.
The polymers obtained were characterized by spectrometric methods and their average molecular weights were determined by GPC data. The polymers presented similar spectrometric results and narrow molecular weight distributions.
The reactional conditions and the kinetics of these polymerizations were investigated.
The polymerization results showed that the different alkyl groups present in the dialkyl sulphates affected the initiation process, and probably influenced the propagation species, due to the counteranion effect. The polymerizations initiated by more hindered dialkyl sulphates presented higher kinetics constants and lower polydispersions.
