✦ Synopsis

Electrochemical investigations on pentacyanonitrosyl complexes of the 1st group of transition metals have been focussed mainly on the studies of reduction (ref. 1 and papers cited therein)

. The reason for this situation is the almost exclusive use of the dropping mercury electrode which does not enable us to reach a sufficiently positive potential region, where many interesting oxidations take place. This more positive range is achievable with solid electrodes which, in addition, make possible direct analysis of the products of the electrode reaction when they are used as stationary electrodes.

Electrochemical oxidations ofpentacyanonitrosyl complexes carried out so far together with the results of present work are given in Table 1. ]?ABLE 1 ]?HE STUDIED ELECTROCHEMICAL OXIDATIONS OF PENTACYANONITROSYL COMPLEXES OF THE FIRST GROUP OF TRANSITION METALS MI processes given are 0ne-electron oxidations. The data related to the mercury electrode were obtained by polarography, those related to the carbon electrode were obtained by voltammetry at a stationary electrode at ~can-rate 1.16 × 10 -z V s -1.
