Abstract
The nuclear‐spin‐lattice relaxation time T~1~ of ^23^Na in NaNO~2~ single crystals is measured between room temperature and 200 °C. The experimental method employed consists of a very long saturation sequence of 90° pulses. The results indicate the existence of a logarithmic singularity of the relaxation rate if the phase transition is approached from both the paraelectric and ferroelectric phase. In addition a discontinuity of T~1~ is observed at the transition of the paraelectric‐antiferroelectric type. The critical behaviour of the spin‐lattice relaxation rate of ^23^Na in NaNO~2~ is described, theoretically by applying the thermodynamics of the ferroelectric phase transition.
