✦ Synopsis

FractIonal factorial, moddied sunplex and response surface studies of the Mo(VI)-catalysed and noncatalysed ondatlon of lo&de by hydrogen peronde m acl&c medmm were executed usmg a monosegmented contmuous-flow system (MCFS) As this reaction IS cmnmonly used for the spectrophotometnc catalytic determmatlon of MoWI), the behavlour of the analykally useful response, AA, the dtierence of the average absorbance values of the MdW catalysed and non-catalysed reactions, was stud& over a large range of expenmental condltlons The effects of sunultaneous changes 111 the sample flow-rate, the H,SO,, KI and Hz02 concentrattons and the reactlon time on the ngnals were measured The optmmm concentratums found usmg MCFS are 0 0665,O 1528 and 0 0041 M for H,SO,, KI and H,O,, respectwely mrous control of the and concentration 1s essentml to mamtam the sensltlvlty of the analybcal signal for operatmg condrtlons close to the optunum values recommended here On the other hand, the AA values are much less sensltlve to vanatlons m the H,O, concentration Increasmg IU concentrations can unprove the sensit&y but can also cause baselme mstablllty The response surface IS convenient for vtsuallzmg the overall behavlour of the system for the expenmental control values mvestlgated

Chlorpromazine is oxidized catalytically in the presence of iodide with 1 M hydrogen peroxide in 1 M sulphuric acid medium to form a red radical, which is further oxidized to a colourless sulphoxide. The plot of absorbance at 528 nm vs. reaction time shows an absorbance maximum proportional to the c
