✦ Synopsis
The influence of Mg% ions on the equilibrium isotope exchange between calcite single crystals and saturated CaCO3 solution, IabelIed with 45Ca, was studied. It was found that when the solution has (Mg/Ca) molar ratios of 10-15, a stable composition of (Mg/Ca) = 1 on the surface is reached. Such a stable surface composition is of interest with respect to the formation of a dolomite nucleation matrix.
