Photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy were employed to investigate the broad band luminescence in thin diamond films grown on a silicon substrate by the HF CVD technique. The broad band luminescence with a maximum emission at 1.8-2 eV observed for CVD diamonds is characteristic for amorphous carb
