✦ Synopsis


High-resolution solid-state NMR experiments are used to study bonding in the semiconductor alloy system Hg, _ ,r&Te over a broad range of values of x. Based on measurement of the "'Te chemical shift and its sensitivity to coordination effects, which we demonstrate for the first time, it can be concluded that Hg and Cd do not distribute themselves randomly in the alloy lattice.
