โœฆ Synopsis

The performance of the 200 ร‚ 2:5 ร‚ 1 cm 3 plastic scintillator strip with wavelength shifting fiber read out by two novel photodetectors called Silicon PhotoMultipliers (SiPMs) is discussed. The advantages of SiPM relative to the traditional multichannel photomultiplier are shown. Light yield and light attenuation measurements are presented. This technique can be used in muon or calorimeter systems.

lhe hmlcal compatiblllty of wave length shifting fibers with several llquld sclntlllators has been lnvestlgated. Based on systematic chsracterhdon of the behavior of the BC-517 family. a time of life of 70-450 years was estimated for the polystyrene based wave length shifting fiber in BC-517P sclntl
