✦ Synopsis
With a view to future application to real sea-water samples, chromatographic conditions were investigated for studying the behaviour of copper(B)-amino acid complexes on reversed-phase Cts. Both direct injection and precolumn derivatization with o-phthalaldehyde of synthetic samples were considered. The final procedure achieved the complete separation of o-amino acids (free and metal-bound) after sample treatment and derivatixation with o-phthaladehyde. The determination of copper(B)-amino acid complexes and 100% recovery of all copper species present in samples seem to be possible. The results provide information on the dissolved copper distribution in sea water.
