A new type of single-ion conductor with fixed cation was synthesized by spontaneous anionic polymerization of 4-vinylpyridine in the presence of short polyethylene oxide (PEO) chains as alkylating agents. These comblike polymers have low T g s and are amorphous with the shorter PEOs. Their conductiv

Abstract
Sulfonated dimethyl fumarate (SDMF) was prepared. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) with sodium sulfonate side chains (SPEO) was synthesized by transesterification between SDMF and PEO with molecular weights of 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000. The SPEO was subsequently mixed as a plasticizer with PEO polyurethane (PU). Samples were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, ^1^HβNMR, gel permeation chromatography, and impedance analysis. The mixture exhibited a homogeneous domain. The maximum conductivity of the CPU1000/SPEO600 was 2.6 Γ 10^β7^ S cm^β1^ at room temperature. The relation between the ionic conductivity and the temperature was in agreement with the Arrhenius equation. Β© 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 82: 541β545, 2001

A novel synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-grafted poly(urethanes) (PURs) is described based on a precursor PUR containing free amino groups in the main chain. Three different poly(urethane) backbones were prepared: a homopoly(urethane) comprised of N-Bocdiethanolamine (BDA) and 4,4Π-methylene
